Ann-Marie's Story

I am currently a resident at Townsend House and took part in the recent life skills and budgeting course, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I found the course really interesting and felt it was really helpful in preparing me to move on from Townsend House.

I have recently started to volunteer at a weekly drop in session for the elderly where I help set up the Community Centre for the session, collect money for the meals, serve food, make tea and coffee and more importantly chat to the participants and provide them with some much appreciated company.

I’ve always been close to my nan so I feel I’ve got a good connection with elderly people and I’m really pleased to have been given the opportunity to meet such lovely people, whilst gaining lots of really useful skills and improving my confidence, which I know will stand me in good stead for the future.

I have got lots of plans for the future, I am starting a floristry course in September and I am also planning to attend The Princes’ Trust Enterprise Program. I am also carrying on with volunteering by doing administration at the community shop as it is a great way to meet new people and gain experience.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Townsend House but I am looking forward to moving on with my life and utilising all the skills I have learnt.
