Margaret's Story

I was born in Co Mayo, Ireland and emigrated to London in 1962 for employment opportunities. During my life in London, I worked in a variety of jobs from a hospital assistant to an administrator for American Express.

Later, I was employed part-time by Age Concern for nine years and I loved every minute of my time there. I got great personal satisfaction from assisting elderly people and listening to their life stories.

I always lived in the Kilburn/Queen's Park area and I have made some great friends over the years. I lived in a small bedsit with shared facilities for many years, however as I grew older, I needed more suitable accommodation. From living locally, I was already aware of St Eugene Court so I applied to be considered for accommodation.

I met the criteria and was offered a beautiful one-bed flat in October 2005. I am very happy living in St Eugene Court – it is close to the local amenities, such as a supermarket, park, library and transport links. I look forward to attending resident events and enjoy good banter with other residents. Management supply us with the Irish newspapers so it’s great to be able to keep in touch with news from home.

I also enjoy regular visits back to Ireland to visit my extended family and I am a committee member with Brent Irish Advisory Service (BIAS). I attend regular meetings but it is also an opportunity for me to keep up with Irish events in London and catch up with old friends.

A new lift has recently been installed in St Eugene Court and it’s a great asset for many of the residents in the house. I am looking forward to spending many more happy years here.
